We are making this...

This is an easy coloring picture that you can turn into a tag or stationery or use it any way you want! I actually made this outline for pixel painting. And I decided to use it for a lesson, so you can see how to paint an outline and make it into a picture...tube or not. First you will need to download this selection file, unzip it and then extract to your selections folder at My Documents/MyPSP/Selections.
Lovebird Selection File
Now go to your program and open a new project

that is 188x175.

Go to Selection/Load/Save Selection/Load Selection from Disk.

You will see the marching ant around the outline.
Choose your paint brush tool.

Your paint brush should have these settings.

And your materal pallet forground set to black

Click, hold and run your paint brush over your selection, to paint in the outline of your lovebirds.

Now go to Selections/Select None and you should have this.

Now we can paint! You can choose any color as you want. If you want you can search google images for Lovebirds, and see the rainbow of colors they come in! There are peack faced, black masked and one called a Fishers. There are many mutations of colors, from blue, to green to pastel and even latino. I used to have a green black masked love bird that I handfed, his name was Peewee and my parakeet Homor, used to say his name all the time...it was really cute! Back to coloring, I will tel you the colors I am using, but you can choose anything you want!

I choose my magic wand and choose a head portion

Then, I flood fill with #F2715C.

I go back to my selection tool and choose another area, and flood fill this also. You keep repeating this, until your birds are colored in. I used #4EC04E for the green body. I used #94C8C7 for the light blue body and #D9EBEB for the head.

On the blue bird there is a body area, that is actually next to the leg and I made it a darker color of the blue #569A99. I used #543414 for the branch, and #9F7E61 for the cut off stump. I used the color #7F9B9B for the blue bird's feet and #808080 for the green bird's feet. I used #E0C5A6 for their beaks and for their eyes, I used #404040. And here are my little birdies so far

Kind of bland aren't they...LOL! Lets do a little shading and other things to help them along. This is actually all up to your. If you own birds, you can make them to look like yours, or if you are really good at coloring or pixel painting, then you do it any way you color best!
I use my magic wand and select the green body. I go to selections/float. I go to effects/3d/cutout. And now I use these settings

The dark green I use is #004000. Then I select the head, float, cutout. I applied the same settings, but used the color #B44536. When I select the blue bird's head, I use apply the cutout and use the body blue color to use in the cutout. Then when I select the blue bird's body, I used the color of the dark area by the leg for the cutout color. Don't for get to float, or your cutout will not work right. These are my birds so far

At this point you can leave the dark outline or you can change it. I use the replace color tool.

To use this tool, you choose the color you want it to be as your foreground and the color you are replacing as the background color in your material pallet.

See how the black is turning dark green?! By the way, my color replacer tool is set at

And my material pallet is set to this

You can change the size depending on where you are replacing colors and you may want to zoom in to color just the outline around the green body. I do this around each area, I use the following colors to outline in...
Green body- #0E570E
Melon head- #873D35
Blue body- #457B7A
Blue head- #569A99
Beaks- #B79771
Feet- #404040
Branch- #311E0D Now I actually go around the eyes with white, because lovebirds do have white rings around their eyes.
Here are my birds so far...

A few added shades and highlights will also improve the look of the branch and birds. You can do this a couple of ways. You can use your dodge and burn tools, you can use your paint brush. What every tool you like is fine!
You can detail to your hearts content! And then...you are done! TaDa!
Here is a tag I made with my birds

This lesson was made for one of my lessons in Stepping Stones Through PSP, and made with PSP8.
