You can make a beveled buttons or frame with this section. You can to tons of things, just play with this in different ways, you would be surprised what you might make! But let me help you begin...
You can use this with plain solid colors, gradient colors or even texutres, you can use it alone or with putting a frame first on the graphic. You can also make your own frames with this, but using cutouts of shapes! I hope you have as much fun as I did leanring this and using this.
You can start with a blank shape (or graphic). You will open it, then you will copy it, and paste another one right on top of it. When you do copy and paste, your new one will be small, so you have to resize it to match the first one. You will select the bottom layer and make it black (for now).
You can make it black by going to PAINT & COLOR EFFECTS/FILL WITH SOLID COLOR.
You will now select the top layer and go into EDGE EFFECTS/SOFT EDGES.
Move the lever over as for as you want, different settings make different effects on your project!
If the bottom layer (now black) seems too dark you can change the color to a color that goes better with the top layer. Just select the black layer and go back to PAINT & COLOR EFFECTS/FILL WITH SOLID COLOR

You can also do this type of bevel on textures, open a texture and duplicate it. I find that if you click on the bottom layer and go to TOUCHUP/BRIGHTNESS & CONTRAST and then move the brightness slider to the left, to darken your graphic, that you can still bevel without loosing texture in your graphics!

You can also do this with a frame. To make it look more rounded on the outside to match the inside. Open a shape and go to PROJECTS/MATS & FRAMES/SIMPLE FRAMES. Follow through the process for putting a frame on your shape.
For this to work you will have to trim your frame back in workbench. Select the frame that is now around your shape and go to CUTOUTS & PICTURES/TRIM CUTOUT/CUT A HOLE. Chose the COOKIE CUTTER option. Size it to your the out side of the frame. Click next, you will have to change to "select opposite area", then click DONE.
Now make a copy of the frame, with copy and paste again! Make the bottom frame black, like above.
And again adust the soft edges, as above.
This works well with textured and gradient colored shapes. You just open them and do the same as above, but make sure your black layer matches your inside bevel, so it matches. To match it, select the bottom layer and go to PAINT & COLOR EFFECTS/FILL WITH SOLID COLOR, make the cursor go over to the darkest part of the bevel on the frame, and click, it will turn to that color!
You can also bevel the same way in other versions. To help you find where to go to follow this
lesson please read your versions directions below.
You can belve the same as above. You will need to make sure you are NOT in blank projects.
Go to SHOW MY PICTURES & PROJECTS/MY DOCUMENTS and open a graphic. Your graphic can be any size,
you can resize it and fill it with solid color once open. To resize your graphic, please read my
resize lesson for your PI version. To fill with color you can go to PAINT & COLOR EFFECTS/FILL then
choose a solid color from the color pallet or click MORE SOLID COLOR CHOICES. Once you
have your graphic the color and size you need you then make a duplicate (CTRL+d). You will fill
the top layer with a lighter color of the bottom layer, by going to PAINT & COLOR EFFECTS/FILL/MORE SOLID COLOR CHOICES,
click on the bottom layer, then drag the INSIDE ball up and toward the lighter color. Once you have done this
click on your upper layer, line it up with your lower layer and then go to EDGE EFFECTS/SOFT EDGES, and move
the slider toward the right until you have the amount of lower layer showing that you like. To make your
beveled frame you would go back to your HOME PAGE, and then go to PICK A DESIGN/FOR PHOTOS and click on FRAMES/MATS.
Then click on DESIGNER FRAMES/PHOTO SIMPLE FRAME and follow through making your frame as above. The bevel the way I
have already explained once you go back to SHOW MY PICTURES & PROJECTS. By the way, if you delete your picture, you
can save your frame in PNG and use it any time.
PICTURE 2002
You can do all of the above in this version. You will need to go to OPEN & EDIT/MY COMPUTER and open
a graphic. You can resize and fill with color if you want. To bevel, you will need to make a duplicate
of your graphic (CTRL+d), because this version lines duplicates exactlly, you need to move the top layer a little off
so you can see both layers. Then go to PHOTO & COLOR EFFECTS/COLOR or TEXTURE/FILL WITH COLOR OR TEXTURE. Then
click on MORE SOLID COLOR CHOICES. Use the eyedropper to click on the bottom layer, then
drag the inside ball up and toward the ligher colors until you like it. Then line them up
on top of each other and go to FRAMES & EDGE EFFECTS/SOFT EDGES, move the slider to the right until
you like the amount of bottom layer showing. To bevel a frame you will click BACK TO MAIN OPTIONS/BACK TO HOME PAGE and
then to PICK A DESIGN and then FRAMES/MATS. Choose BUILD YOUR OWN/PHOTO SIMPLE FRAME. Follow
through and make your frame as you like it. When you click done, you will go to your work area. Here
you will UNLOCK your frame. You will need to click and drag the grey layer of your frame in your
righthand stack, drag it below your colored layer. Now go to FRAMES & EDGE EFFECTS/SOFT EDGES, move the
slider right until you like it. To make a double frame, just duplicate your frame after locking the 2 layers together.
and make one smaller to fit insdie of the larger one. NOTE if you don't like the color or darkness of the bevel,
you should click on the grey layer (bottom layer once you drag it there). And then fill wtih a color you like. By the way, if you delete your picture, you
can save your frame in PNG and use it any time.
Digital Image Pro
You can do everything as above, to find your way around to bevel and frame you would start by opening your
program. Open a graphic you want to bevel. You will duplicate (CTRL+d). Then go to TOUCHUP/HUE & SATURATION here
you can make the top layer lighter (or the bottom layer darker) by using the inside ball and dragging it
toward the lighter color or darker color. But you have to make sure you have clicked the layer you want to change
first, before going into hue and saturation. Once you have the bottom layer darker than
the top layer, you will go to EFFECTS/EDGES/SOFT EDGES and adjust the slider to the right until
you like the look of the bevel, it nothing changes you don't have the top layer selected...go back and select it
by clicking on it. To bevel the outside of a frame or make a double beveled frame, you will go to CREATE A PROJECT.
Go to FRAMES/MATS choose BUILD YOUR OWN/PHOTO SIMPLE FRAME and follow through to make your frame.
Once you are done and you have clicked done, you will return to your work area. Here you will click on your
framed project, then UNLOCK it. When you do, you will have 3 layers, your frame texture/color the
grey beveled layer and the picture you applied them to. You can delete the picture if you want. Then
you will go to the right stack and drag the grey layer down, below the texture/color layer. You will
notice that you bevel is gone, you will click on the top layer that is now your texture layer, go to
EFFECTS/EDGES/SOFT EDGES, and slide to the right until you like the look. If you find you don't like your
grey layer, you can click on it, then go to EFFECTS/FILL WITH COLOR or TEXTURE and now make it a darker
color that looks nice with your top layer. To make a double frame, just duplicate your frame
and make one smaller than the first and fit it in the middle. By the way, if you delete your picture, you
can save your frame in PNG and use it any time.
