We are gonna make this...

In this lesson you will learn an easy way to make areas of a picture glittery. I used DIP10, but you can use any version probably, and I know you can do any version that has the transparecy brush! I finally took the time to find a filter that works pretty well. And as always this is how I figured out to do this with just the tools in our program. I know that if you have the new EyeCandy5 Textures/Textured Noise/Salt & Pepper, you can do this with that plug in. But I wanted to do this without any xtra plugins, so here we go! First find a picture you like. I chose this one

You want to click CTRL+d 2 times, to make 2 more duplicates of your picture.

Once you have 3 of your picture in your stack, you want to click on the middle one in the stack

Now go to EFFECT/FILL and fill with black,

unless your picture has alot of black then you can use lime green. It doesn't matter, you just need to see where you have cut parts of your picture out, so make it a bright "loud" color you wouldn't normally use...LOL!

Now click on the top layer of your picture.

Now go to EFFECT/TRANSPARENCY/BRUSH and use these settings

Actually, the size of your brush is up to you, depending on the size of your picture, the size of the area you want to glitter and you can choose different sizes for different areas. But 5 is a pretty good starting point. I am going to start here

Where you start and what you makes glitter is all up to you! When you cut an area out, you will see the layer underneath, that you have filled with a solid color.

When you are done with all your areas, you should have something that looks like this

Now you want to delete the middle filled picture from the stack, just right click on it and then delete

Now click on the bottom layer in the stack to select it.

And now for the glitter part! With your bottom picture selected, go to EFFECTS/FILTER/ALL FILTERS Go way down toward the list of filters and find TEXTURIZER

Click CHANGE ADVANCED OPTIONS.

In here we will decide what texture works best. This is a very very self-deciding option! You can choose any one of these textures

I settled on VERY FINE STIPPLE. The settings for this effect, I found that this setting works best for this picture, but again, play around with it!

And for the actual glitter moving part. You will need to select a direction for your light from this menu

You will use a different one for each frame of you animation. So it is safer to just click one from the top, write it down, then check when you come to this step again, because it will reset it's self and your aniation will not work. Click done and done and you picture should look like this

You want to "save as" frame1.png (name optional!) You want to now click the UNDO button

And REPEAT the steps of appling the filter texture. The texture does reset, so you have to remember your settings from before, so you get the same effect, but change the direction of the light each time

And always remember to click UNDO after each save as! This takes some getting used to, so have a notebook near by ;-) I made 4 frames for my animation. Now I will close everything and then open my 4 frames, in order. Then go to TOOLS/FLIPBOOK

Click through the first few flipbook pages, not changing anything. But when you get here, change the setting to this size of your original picture or smaller if you wish. If at the end you don't like the size, you can click back and change the size

The next thing is the speed of your animation. I thought 1 was too fast, but the 3 looked nice for this sized photo, again, it's up to you!

Now click NEXT and see your glitter!! Cool, huh?!
Here are some more of mine

And this one
was done with the Eyecandy I talked about above
