We are making this

While I made mine in DIP10, you can make this in any version, if you know your program!

I have made a few version of the dream catcher, so you can play around and come up with all kinds of them! You can see others at the end of this lesson to give you some ideas. This is the easiest more basic way to make one. I thought the picture catcher would be more popular, since you could then apply this to a photo! So here we go ;-)
Open a new project
Go to FORMAT/RESIZE CANVAS/CUSTOM RESIZE

I chose 200x400 pixel, it is a nice size. You can make it as big or as small as you want. Now for the picture catcher, you will want to choose a photo or graphic, and open it. I liked this one

You want to apply EFFECTS/EDGES/DESIGNER for the effect of the edge on the picture you chose.

You can either click this option or not, I usually do, but it sometimes depends on the picture

Click through the next options, don't change anything and then you should have something like this...

Now you will INSERT/SHAPE/CIRCLE

Resize the black ring border, to the thinkness you want your catchers border. This also depends on the picture. I usually go with "2", but later on in the lesson, I changed it to "4" because I liked that better.

Also you want to make the black border on your circle the part you use, so you will need to click the FILL tool on your menu and choose NO FILL

Now resize it to fit around your picture

In your stack, you will click, hold and drag your circle under your picture

Now you should have something like this

At this point you want to color your circle border. First let me say, if you are working with a solid color, you might want to bevel your circle, and you would do that by duplicating your border (CTRL+d), making the bottom layer darker than the top layer. Then apply EFFECTS/EDGES/SOFT to the top layer so that the bottom shows through. But when you fill with gradient, you don't really need to bevel (I tried and it didn't make much differenece, so I opted not to). Anyways, to fill your border, FIRST you must use the magic wand selection tool

In the selection window, you need this setting

Now click on the black border, you may need to zoom in, to get it

You must do this part, or the middle with the part that gets filled with color.

Now go to EFFECTS/FILL/GRADIENT

And choose these 2

When you are done, you should have something like this

Now you need to INSERT/SHAPE/SQUARE you will remove the border, fill with a color you want and then make a long skinny rectangle and place at the bottom of your circle

Now you will apply the distort filter to make it more ribbon like

This filter

This setting, the default is 40, increase it to 100

You should have this

Now you will make duplicates (CTRL+d) and line them along the bottom

For the bottoms, which are usually feathers, but I couldn't find an easy way to make a feather, although you could always search google images for "feather" and cut some out! But if you don't want to search and cutout, you will INSERT/CIRCLE remove border and squash, so that it is a tall oval

I found that if you fill with gradient, it looks pretty good!

Once you get it the way you like, then just duplicate for each end. I like beads and doodads for them, so to make a simple bead you will INSERT/CIRCLE. Fill with a solid color remove border

Now duplicate it and select the top layer

Fill the top layer with white and make smaller

Go to TOUCHUP/BLUR/GAUSSIAN BLUR and apply it

And your bead now looks like this

Now lock the 2 layers for the bead together. In the stack, click on the top layer, click and hold CTRL and click on the other layer, see the lock

Click it to lock

Now you can resize it down and place it on your catcher

I placed these at the bottom, but you can place them where you want, and have more than one. When you are done, they might look something like this

If you don't want them all the same color, then click on one and go to EFFECST/CHANGE HUE and change each one to a different color.

For this look

And there you have a dream catcher!

Here are some others I did on my way to this lesson.

This catcher was my very first, made with DIP and Eye Candy 5 filters, a bit more fancy without a picture in it.

And here are my other dreamers
