This lessons is a frame using the brand new selection tool in DIP9 & DIP9 Suite. I love this new tool! Once you get the hang of it, you might love it too!!
We are making this

You start with a graphic/photo

You start by going to your work bar at the top and finding this

Click on the circle/square icon. You will then see your cursor looks like this

I start in the upper left corner of the picture, click and hold your mouse button, toward the lower right corner. The selected part will turn milky, until you let go of the mouse button.

On rectangle graphics and photos, you will only be able to make a square selection, but you can reshape this by going back to your work bar at the top, and clicking on SELECTION

This box will appear

You will now click on ADJUST SELECTION

Your selection area will turn milky colored again. And you will see little sizing squares around your selection

You will put your cursor over one of the little squares and pull, to make your selection larger.

So that it covers your photo/graphic and you can also adjust how big you want the frame around it to be here.

Now go back to

and click DONE

While you are in there, you will want to click INVERT

You will notice that your selection will now have 2 dotted lines around the outside of your selection. This is going to be the frame.

You can apply any or several filters and/or plugins here. To tinker around and try different ones out is how you find things! I love to use Eyecandy's chrome or bevel boss plugins.

Or just DIP's own filters

I did an old stand by from earlier versions of PI. I made a beveled frame by leaving the frame selected and clicking CTRL+d, this makes a duplicate of the frame area. I do this once more so that I have 2 copies.

Click the bottom frame (not the one on the picture). And then I go to TOUCHUP/BRIGHTNESS & CONTRAST

and use contrast, drag it half way to the left, making the bottom layer of frame dark. Then I click the top layer of frame, and go to EFFECTS/EDGES/SOFT

The number you choose, makes a difference in what your frame will look like.

And that is all up to you!
