To make a transparent gif is pretty simple. When you open a graphic and you cut it out, the cutout can be saved to be transparent, meaning that when you put it on a web page, it will just be the cutout
not have the ugly white square around it
To keep it transparent you have to save it as a GIF format.
If you save it as a JPG, it will have the white square around it. Sometimes when saving as a gif, it affects the colors you choose, so always check your saved graphic before closing it from you work area! When making a transparent background, I started with my red square, then added some text to it.
I then delete the red part on this one
To delete, just right click on the red part, it opens a new windown and you choose delete from it, then click OK, and it is gone!
You now have no background and if you save it as a gif, it will look like this
